Professional Residential and Business Organizing in Cleveland, Ohio since 2003

Spring has finally sprung!  We just love to see the flowers popping up, the sun shining down and the smell of newly cut grass.  For our business, it is also our busy season!  Spring cleaning is taken to an even higher level as many get inspired to clear their clutter.

Some of our clients are calling because they have been inspired by two recent books; "The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning:How to Make Your Loved Ones' Lives Easier and Your Own Life More Pleasant" by Margareta Magnusson and Marie Kondo's "the life-changing magic of tidying up".  The message in both of these books is that the clutter that surrounds you in your home or office is depriving you of greater joy in your life.  Most of us can recall a time we have walked into a room, looked at a pile of papers or clothes, and turned around rather than facing the clean up required!

The concept behind Swedish Death Cleaning is if you clear out items you no longer need or use, not only will you have more space and a beautiful room or closet, you will also save your children or relatives from having to go through all of your things.  Most of us do not wish to place that burden on our children, so starting the process when we are healthy and physically able, is a smart idea!  Magnusson's book is a personal account of how she decluttered her home of unwanted clothes, books, and other "stuff", and she reminisces about life in Sweden as she goes through years worth of family memorablila items.  The book takes a humorous approach to the process, which is something we always try to do with our clients.

Marie Kondo's approach is to look at every single item you own in your home and determine if it "sparks joy" or not.  She recommends dumping the contents of a drawer or a closet onto the floor, touching each item and getting rid of anything you no longer value.  Needless to say, many of the items we use every day do not "spark joy" but are necessary to cook, clean, etc.  The overall concept is a good one, as it forces individuals to really see what they have and contemplate what they truly need.  We also recommend organizing a drawer at a time but are not quite as strict as the "KonMari" method described in her book.  Marie Kondo has received a lot of publicity and developed a worldwide team of organizers who specialize in her method.

Organizing 4 U will be at Appletree Books in Cleveland Heights at 7 p.m. on May 24 th, discussing these books and giving our tips on decluttering our life.  Come join us!

The Organizing 4 U method is to improve your life through decluttering, based upon your definition of "cleaned up" and what your individual goals are.  So, if you need some help (the books are great but they can't do the work for you), give us a call!  We love to help people find more joy in their lives!
