I Might As Well Organize Something!

As we are all sheltering at home these days, I expect some of you have uttered these words;"I might as well organize something" while I have the time!  While we cannot come into your homes physically to help you organize, we thought a few tips might be in order.

We always say to our customers "start small".  This is a great mantra on so many levels.  If you begin an organizing project with a single drawer, shelf or pile of papers, you will feel the satisfaction of completing the task and you will likely be motivated to do another drawer, shelf or pile!  When we look at a bigger task, it seems overwhelming, but bite size pieces are manageable and maybe even fun!

Don't know where to start?  Many of us do not have enough closet or drawer space for both winter and summer clothes, and we must change the spaces with the seasons.  Our current time at home is allowing us extra time for a project like this.  Do a little every day and it will be easier to do.  Before you put items back into your closet or into storage, determine if the item still fits, is fashionable or should be donated.  While charities are not currently collecting donations, you could have your bags ready for dropoff when these sites re-open!

Are you combing your bookshelves for books to read?  I have thinned out a number of books for donation-ones I have already read and will never read again.    If you are walking to get out of the house, look for a Little Free Library in your neighborhood and drop off a few books.  Now is a perfect time to thin out your pile of old catalogues and magazines.  Decluttering will make the spaces you are living in even more desirable!

Getting a head start on your gardening is also a great way to relieve stress and be out in the fresh air.   Organizing your garden supplies and determining what you need to buy for planting will help you get a jump on the planting season.  It is likely you will be able to chat with your neighbors as they start to come out of their houses for our improving weather.

We hope that all of you are healthy and safe at home.  We look forward to seeing you all soon and in the meantime, find a small organizing project and pretend we are there with you!  Please let us know what organizing project you are doing!  Send your accomplishments to
